Youth Learn to Skate

We’re launching a new approach this season: More Ice Time, More Progress!

This season, we are introducing an updated program format designed to help skaters make continued progress.

Each skater will receive one 15-minute class each week with our coaching team, along with up to three hours of supervised practice ice each week included with registration.

Why the change? Skaters improve the most when they have opportunities to practice what they learn. Instead of spending the entire session in one 20-30 minute lesson, skaters will now receive focused coaching followed by dedicated ice time to reinforce new skills, build confidence, and practice at their own pace.

Your registration includes:

  • One 15-minute class each week
  • Access to up to three hours of weekly practice ice
  • A structured environment to practice and develop skills between lessons
  • Learn to Skate USA membership

This new format provides significantly more time on the ice, creating greater opportunities for learning, practice, and long-term improvement.

Please register your child for the level you feel best matches where they were last year. The first day will be an evaluation day so we can make sure everyone is placed in the right group!

Into to Ice: This level is for brand new skaters who have NOT really been on the ice yet.  We will learn how to sit/stand/fall/march first.

Snowplow Sam 1: This level is for new skaters who may have been on the ice a little bit, but are still brand new and can't quite sit/stand/fall/march on their own quite yet.

Snowplow Sam 2: This level is for newer skaters who are able to sit/stand/fall/march/stopping, can move a little bit quicker on the ice and are ready to start learning more skating skills

Basic 1: This level is for skaters who can easily sit/stand/fall/march and glide a bit on their own. This level coincides with skills in SS2 but these skaters have a bit more ease on the ice, although are still beginner skaters.

Basic 2: This level is for skaters who can move easily on the ice but are ready to really start learning to skate. We will be learning how to push properly, glide forward on 1 foot and backwards on 2 feet and more.

Basic 3: This level is for skaters who can easily get on the ice and skate on their own.  We will start learning more technical moves and become more familiar with edges and proper blade use. Skaters will need a little more speed in their skating to progress through this level.

Basic 4: This level is for more advanced skaters familiar with the proper use of their blades, edges, and technique in general.  We will start to learn stronger edges, forward crossovers, backward skating with speed and proper blade use, along with backward one foot glides and 2 foot spins.  Skaters must be confident on the ice and able to move well to progress through this level.

Basic 5: This level is for advanced skaters.  We will be learning proper backward edge work and correct blade use, backward crossovers and other more advanced skills.  This level requires the skater to focus on faster paced skating while maintaining proper technique.

Basic 6: This level is for advanced skaters.  In this level we are getting into higher level skills that require speed, correct use of blades, edges, and the ability to focus on faster paced skating while maintaining proper technique.

Please be sure to read the notes carefully before registering!

  • Helmets and skates are required for this program. Skate rentals are available for an additional $20 fee (must be pre-paid during registration). The skate rental fee covers the entirety of the 6-week program.
  • Elbow and knee pads are recommended for Intro To Skate skaters.
  • No skate aids are allowed on the ice during any session.
  • Only coaches and registered skaters are allowed on the ice.
  • Final class schedule will be released after the close of registration.
  • Day one will serve as an Evaluation Day, where our lead coaches can evaluate all skaters to ensure skaters are placed in the correct class. If skaters need to be moved around, we will do so and communicate with the family. Your child’s skater time will change throughout the 6 week session based on their advancement in the program.
  • The final day of each session is our “Testing Day” where skaters will be evaluated on their class skills. Skaters will then be moved to the next level or remain at the same level for the next session until they are ready to progress.
