Williston Municipal Golf Course Expansion Project
Williston’s Beloved ‘Muni’ Poised for Transformation
The Williston Municipal Golf Course, fondly known as “The Muni,” has long been a favorite summer destination for residents and visitors, offering a welcoming place to enjoy the outdoors, connect with family and friends, and play golf. Now, after years of community input, Williston Parks & Recreation Distrcit (WPRD) is excited to annouce there are plans to expand and redesgin the course from 9 to 18 holes, enhancing the experience for current golfers while attracting new players to this cherished local venue.
Williston Municipal Golf Course Expansion Timeline
In the coming weeks, WPRD will begin the search for qualified firms to provide Construction Management at Risk (CMAR) services for the expansion and reconstruction of the golf course. Interested firms can submit their qualifications and required documents directly through the WPRD website. The Request for Qualifications (RFQ) outlines the scope of services, submission requirements, and evaluation criteria for selection.
The project carries an estimated budget of $18 million to $22 million, with Norby Golf Course Design guiding the project from planning through completion. Backed by strong community support, demonstrated by an 82% voter approval to renew WPRD’s 1% sales tax funding on June 10, 2025, this expansion reflects both the need and enthusiasm for investing in one of Williston’s most cherished recreational assets.
Construction will begin in the spring of 2026 on the area beyond the current nine holes. Golfers can continue play through the summer, with the course scheduled to officially close on September 8, 2026, to begin a major expansion that will transform the facility into a full 18-hole course. The 2026 season will continue as planned until the closure, and all season memberships will be prorated to reflect the shortened season.
After careful evaluation, WPRD determined that remaining open during construction would not be practical. Closing early and pausing operations in 2027 will help manage costs and ensure efficiency, allowing specialized construction crews to complete the project in a single mobilization while maintaining top quality standards. The course will remain closed for the entire 2027 season, with construction expected to be completed in 2028. WPRD will provide regular updates to the community as the project progresses.
