On June 10, 2025, voters overwhelmingly approved the indefinite continuation of the existing 1% sales tax, with 82% in favor. This funding continues to support parks, facilities, and programs throughout the Williston Parks & Recreation District (WPRD), providing a stable foundation for both day-to-day operations and long-term planning.

The History: How WPRD Has Been Funded
The 1% sales tax has been in place since 2012, originally approved by voters to fund the construction of the Williston Area Recreation Center (ARC) and provide property tax relief to area residents. Without this measure, the ARC would not have been built. Over the past 12 years, sales tax revenue has allowed WPRD to operate effectively while minimizing the impact on property taxes.

Impact of the 1% Sales Tax Extension
With the measure now approved for indefinite continuation:

• WPRD will continue receiving sales tax revenue to maintain and improve parks, facilities, and programs.
• Property taxes will not be assessed for WPRD operations as long as the sales tax remains in place.
• Residents benefit from continued property tax relief; in 2024 alone, this resulted in savings of $583.09 for a $300,000 home (or $194.36 per $100,000 of True & Full valuation).

Long-Term Planning and Capital Projects
The indefinite continuation of the sales tax enables WPRD to plan and execute long-term operations and capital improvements. Key projects currently planned or underway include:

• Raymond Center Remodel
• New Ice Facility
• Park Updates
• Ongoing operations and maintenance
